  • do najwyższego stopnia przed przymiotnikiem dajemy "the" i dodajemy końcówkę -est

> długich:

  • do wyższego stopnia przed przymiotnikiem dajemy "more"
  • do najwyższego stopnia przed przymiotnikiem stawiamy "the most"

> wyjątków:

  • far - farther - the farthest
  • good - better - the best

W przymiotnikach jednosylabowych dublujemy ostatnią spółgłoskę jeśli między spółgłoską jest samogłoska.

  • big - bigger - the biggest
  • thin - thinner - the thinnest

Słówko than oznacza"niż i jest charakterystyczne dla stopnia wyższego.  

Słówka as ... as oznacza tak ... jak.
