Dlaczego w poniższym zdaniu powinno być "had decided to take".
Według mnie to zdanie wygląda na 2 tryb warunkowy, więc myślałem że powinno być po prostu Past Simple "decided to take"..

If the trekkers had decided to take (decide / take) the shorter route, they would be in trouble now. Fortunately they didn’t.
