2.  The pilot held the controls. The engines were dead and the plane was gliding towards the airfield. She knew that if she didn't have the velocity to reach the runway, there was no way she could accelerate. She just hoped that the air would continue to flow over the wings and stop her from sinking too low. She approchaed the runway with her heart in her throat.
