Past simple to czas odnoszący się do rutyny lub czynności dokonanej np. I jumped down. Natomiast past continous to czas, gdy ta czynność trwała dłużej np. I was constantly jumping. Zatem po połączeniu tych 2czasów wychodzi konstrukcja jak w przykładach.
