What means of transport would you choose to travel by? By boat, bike, or maybe horse? On a recent expedition to Morocco, a British woman used all three of these, as well as many other kinds of transportation. She had decided to travel the whole length of a river that starts in the Atlas mountains and flows through Morocco to the Atlantic Ocean. Her aim was to make people in richer countries realise that climate change is real and that it is affecting more and more areas of the world. She began high in the mountains and followed the river down into the green valleys, where dates and other fruit is grown. At this stage of her journey there was lots of water, but as she travelled further, she saw that the amount of fresh water for local people is more and more limited. Some areas are so dry that nothing grows there any more, not even small plants. This means that the desert is getting bigger, with less and less space for people to live in. She walked most of the way, and kept a blog about her experiences, describing how the expedition made her realise how serious the situation is. In her opinion, it is important for politicians and governments to take action now to stop climate change becoming worse. She hopes to encourage school children to become involved in the fight against global warming, and plans to visit as many schools as she can to talk about her experiences and what she saw.
