The Headington Shark sculpture first appeared on 9th August 1986 in a very ordinary street in Oxford.
The 8-metre-long shark is positioned actually in the roof of a house. It was designed by a sculptor, John Buckley because he said that he 12.1. ___ to create something that deliberately contrasted with its suburban setting.
Following complaints about the condition of the sculpture the shark was renovated quite 12.2. ___. In 2013 the sculpture was the subject of an April Fool’s Day story in a local newspaper which announced a fund of £200,000 by the council to 12.3. ___ the creation of other animal sculptures on rooftops in the area. For the most part, the local community really like the shark and enjoy the fame that is has brought to their street.
