Jeans, invented by Jacob Davis and Levi Strauss in 1873 first gained popularity among cowboys, miners, and factory workers due to their durability. Not until movie stars such as James Dean and Marlon Brando started wearing them on-screen were they considered fashionable. By the 1960s jeans were everywhere as young people discovered how comfortable and functional they were.
