Dear Andy,
Don't worry. I think you should try to get out of your comfort zone and start some conversation. You shouldn't be too concerned about the false assumption that your new friends have a bad opinion about you because it is only what you think. Why don't you talk to some person that is nice to you? I am sure you wont get laughed at. You'd better not think that you are boring because I am telling you that you are not. It would be a great idea to suggest someone go with you to the cinema or wherever you like to spend your time.
I'm sure you will soon be a good friend of everyone in your class. You have always been a good friend to me so why couldn't you be a good friends to others?
