Having read the topic I immediately remembered my grandfather telling me that before the last world war people around used to say that youth had been thinking only about themselves, and in the past it had been much better. They were predicting the war and complaining about not having anyone to protect the fatherland. Later on, the very same youth was glorified for puting their lives on the altar of honour and freedom.
Nowadays, I am sure people would say almost the same that young people do think only about themselves and do nothing for others. Yet, they must do not realise the reality and some facts, although they are well known. As an example can be taken an enormous youth engagement into all kind of charity events. I do not only mean the most famous WOŚP but also dozens of local ones aimed to help an individuals who need support for surgeries, transplants and so on
Of cousre it not all so good. There are young people who do a lot of harm and damage to others by vandalism or all kind of acts of terror. Nevetheless, it cannot be said that all teenagers nad young adults are careless and think about themselves only.
I do believe that asking what teens could do to help the community is inappropriate because they do a lot. It is enough just to ask them for help and the results are always impressive.
