Chciałabym zwrócić uwagę, że określenie zawodu (zajęcia) jest czasem w języku angielskim wyrażeniem składającym się z dwóch słów, podczas gdy po polsku może być jednym słowem

  • office worker (pracownik biurowy),
  • police officer (policjant / policjantka),
  • shop assistant (ekspedient / ekspedientka).

Przypadek  police officer  jest o tyle ciekawy, że jest współczesną próbą ominięcia problemu z określaniem płci osoby wykonującej zawód. Problem występuje też w języku polskim, na przykład gdy piszemy ekspedientka lub policjant, a w rzeczywistości nie wiemy jaka jest płeć danej osoby.
