A FRESHER’S LIFE IS NOT EASY!
Each year, thousands of high school graduates join the ranks of university students. Many of them find it difficult to get used to their new lifestyle and the requirements of higher education. If you’re one of them, here are a few tips to help you.
5.1.
It’s hardly ever enough to take just one or two tours around your campus. Exploring it in detail will help you to get to know where everything is and will save you a lot of time in the future. Find the most vital places like lecture halls and important offices, along with the best places to eat or have a rest in between classes. It is also recommended that you join the campus tours organised by the university staff during the zero-week.
5.2.
Once you’re familiar with your new environment, you’ll need to get yourself organised. Studying, especially away from home, requires much more rigorous discipline than many freshmen realise. Introduce regularity into your daily chores, so that you don’t end up having to choose between going shopping for supper or handing in your project on time.
5.3.
However, no matter how well-organised you might be, problems of various kind might emerge. Asking your friends for advice is fine, but don’t hesitate to consult your professors. They set up office hours for the purpose of meeting their students and helping them if necessary. Also, get to know your academic adviser, who will be able to give you specific tips about your course, major options or any other issues that might come up during your studies.
5.4.
Last but not least, keep in mind that a lot of simple, everyday problems can be solved just by making sure you know what’s happening at your university. Look out for the bulletin boards that will feature lots of ads from other students, offering cheap accommodation or second-hand books.
